Terms of Use

Last updated: March 2026

Acceptance

By accessing or using refind you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use refind. refind is provided as-is for demonstration purposes.

Use at your own risk

refind is early-stage software (“demoware”). It is provided as-is, without any warranty of any kind, express or implied — including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

refind may be unavailable, slow, or return incorrect results at any time. Data may be lost. Do not rely on refind for anything where accuracy or availability is critical.

Permitted use

You may use refind to:

  • Ingest publicly available YouTube content for personal research and learning.
  • Query ingested content with AI and receive cited answers.
  • Share queries and sources with others using refind's built-in sharing features.

Prohibited use

You may not use refind to:

  • Ingest or distribute content that you do not have the right to use.
  • Circumvent, disable, or interfere with refind's security or rate-limiting features.
  • Attempt to extract, scrape, or bulk-download data from refind's API.
  • Use refind for any unlawful purpose or in violation of YouTube's Terms of Service.
  • Impersonate another person or create accounts on others' behalf without their consent.

YouTube content and copyright

refind processes publicly available YouTube captions. All video content remains the property of the respective copyright holders. refind does not download, store, or redistribute video files.

If you believe refind has ingested content that infringes your copyright, contact us via our contact form and we will remove it promptly.

YouTube Terms of Service compliance

refind retrieves captions using publicly available YouTube data. By using refind you agree not to use it in any way that violates YouTube's Terms of Service, including but not limited to:

  • Ingesting private, unlisted, or age-restricted content you are not authorised to access.
  • Using refind to circumvent YouTube's access controls or geo-restrictions.
  • Reproducing or redistributing transcript content in violation of the original creator's rights.
  • Automated bulk ingestion designed to mirror or archive a creator's entire catalogue without their consent.

refind is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by YouTube or Google LLC. YouTube is a trademark of Google LLC.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, refind and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of — or inability to use — refind, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.

Your sole remedy for dissatisfaction with refind is to stop using it.

Indemnification

By using refind you agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless refind and its operators, contributors, and affiliates from and against any and all claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or in any way connected with: (a) your access to or use of refind; (b) your violation of these Terms or any applicable law or regulation; (c) your misuse or abuse of refind, including use for purposes not sanctioned herein; or (d) any content you submit, ingest, or otherwise introduce to refind.

refind is provided as a demonstration and proof-of-concept. You assume full responsibility for any consequences — legal, financial, or otherwise — arising from how you choose to use it.

Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access to refind at any time, for any reason, without notice.

Changes

These terms may change as refind evolves. Continued use after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
