Privacy Policy

refind is a personal project in early development (“demoware”). This policy describes what limited data refind collects and how it is used. By using refind you acknowledge this policy.

Account data. If you create an account, we store your email address and a hashed password. Your email is used only for authentication — it is not shared, sold, or used for marketing.

YouTube content. When you ingest a YouTube URL, refind fetches publicly available captions from YouTube. The transcript text is processed, PII-redacted (names, emails, phone numbers are replaced with a placeholder), and stored to power search and AI queries.

Query metadata. When you ask a question, refind logs anonymous metadata: which source was queried, how long the response took, and a timestamp. Your question text is never stored.

Usage events. Basic analytics events (page views, feature interactions) may be collected to understand how the product is used. No personally identifiable information is attached to these events.

• We do not store your questions or queries.
• We do not sell or share your data with third parties.
• We do not use your data to train AI models.
• We do not send marketing emails.

When you ask a question, refind sends your question text and relevant excerpts of ingested transcript content to OpenAI to generate an answer. This data is transmitted over an encrypted connection and is subject to OpenAI's Privacy Policy. refind does not store your question text; OpenAI's data retention practices govern what OpenAI retains.

All other AI processing — PII redaction, topic tagging, and text embeddings — runs locally on refind's infrastructure using open-source models. No transcript data is sent to any third party during ingestion.

YouTube content is fetched via publicly available captions. refind does not circumvent YouTube's Terms of Service.

Ingested transcripts and vector embeddings are stored indefinitely until you delete a source. Account data is retained until you request deletion.

refind uses a session cookie for authentication. No advertising or tracking cookies are set.

This policy may be updated as refind evolves. Continued use of refind after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
