Overview
refind respects the intellectual property rights of content creators. If you believe that material available on refind infringes your copyright, you may submit a takedown notice as described below.
refind processes publicly available YouTube captions and generates AI-derived summaries. It does not host, download, or redistribute original video files.
How to submit a takedown notice
Submit your notice via our contact form. Please include the following information, as required by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3)):
- Identification of the copyrighted work you believe has been infringed (e.g. the YouTube video URL or channel name).
- Identification of the infringing material on refind, including the specific URL(s) where it appears.
- Your contact information — name, email address, and optionally a phone number so we can reach you.
- A statement that you have a good faith belief that the use of the material is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in the notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorised to act on behalf of the copyright owner.
- Your physical or electronic signature (typing your full legal name is acceptable as an electronic signature).
What happens next
Upon receiving a valid takedown notice, we will:
- De-index the affected content (remove from search engines and public pages) within 48 hours.
- Permanently delete all associated data (transcripts, embeddings, cached answers) within 30 days.
If your notice is incomplete, we may contact you for clarification before taking action.
Counter-notification
If you believe material was removed in error, you may submit a counter-notification via our contact form containing:
- Identification of the material that was removed and its former location on refind.
- A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good faith belief the material was removed by mistake or misidentification.
- Your name, address, and phone number, and a statement consenting to the jurisdiction of the federal court in your district.
- Your physical or electronic signature.
Designated agent
Registration of a designated DMCA agent with the U.S. Copyright Office is pending. In the interim, all takedown notices should be submitted via our contact form. This page will be updated once registration is complete.
Repeat infringers
refind will, in appropriate circumstances, terminate access for users who are repeat infringers of copyright.
